Mamta (5) with Kasa stn’s API Siddhwa JaybhajeMUMBAI: A five-year-old girl who fell into an overflowing nullah while fleeing home with her family during a flash flood in Dahanu early on Wednesday was found clinging to a tree for over four hours when help arrived.
Mamta Lalka, whose swimming skills helped her stay afloat, will be recommended for state and central government bravery awards by the Palghar district administration.
Her father Vijay was leading the family with a torch at 2am when she slipped into the water. “We reached the spot and were stunned to see the child hanging on to a tree branch,” said Rahul Sarang, Dahanu tehsildar. The revenue department will seek compensation for the family from the government.
