AHMEDABAD: Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5pm on Wednesday added 1,078
Covid-19 positive cases, taking the state tally to 66,777. It was the state’s 15th consecutive day of 1,000-plus daily cases and the highest in the past three days.
The cases included 237 from Surat, 161 from Ahmedabad, 115 from Vadodara and 80 from Rajkot.
The state also recorded deaths of 23 patients, taking the state death toll to 2,557. The deaths included six from Surat, five each from Ahmedabad and Rajkot, two each from Junagadh and Vadodara, and one each from Gandhinagar, Jamnagar and Patan.
In the first five days of August, Surat district has recorded deaths of 52 Covid-19 positive patients, followed by 20 in Ahmedabad, nine in Vadodara and eight in Rajkot.
A total of 1,046 patients got discharged in 24 hours, taking the total to 49,405. The discharges include 218 from Surat, 154 from Rajkot, 127 from Ahmedabad, and 80 from Vadodara.
With the update, the number of active patients in Gujarat rose to 14,815, which is 22.2% of the total cases registered in the state so far. Share of discharged and deceased patients in the state is now at 74% and 3.8%.
Gujarat carried out 24,374 tests in 24 hours, taking the total to 8.79 lakh. The state health department claims that the state's daily per million testing has reached 375.
Number of persons under quarantine in Gujarat reached 5.02 lakh, out of which 5.01 lakh are under home quarantine. Analysis of the quarantined persons and total cases in Gujarat based on Census 2011 data show that 80 persons per 1,000 population in the state is under quarantine due to Covid-19 infection. In comparison, the state has so far recorded 11 positive cases per 1,000 population.
