NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday will plant a Parijat sapling (Night Jasmine) during his visit to Ayodhya for the foundation stone laying ceremony of Ram Temple.
The Prime Minister, in a blog titled "A daughter, A Tree and A Teacher", shared details of a novel method of planting saplings that would help save water while gardening/farming.
The method involves an unglazed clay pot buried next to the sapling. The pot is filled with water which then seeps through the clay and irrigates the roots of the sapling.
"For about a week, you do not need to water the plant again. The pot will act as a natural drip irrigation vehicle. Please remember, you do not need to make holes in the matka. And if you wish to have a better result, then fill the pot with soiled water that is left out after washing of utensils," the PM wrote.
The Prime Minister, in his blog, also recounted an incident from water-scarce Veraval region of Saurashtra where a teacher asked students to carry a bottle of soiled water from their homes. The soiled water was used to plant trees. Soon the dry, arid land was converted into a lush green garden.
"Thus a teacher’s small initiative created a green island in a dry and barren area, that too with wastewater," the PM wrote.
