Ponda MLA Ravi Naik’s sons Ritesh and Roy on Wednesday resigned from the primary membership and all organisational posts in the Congress party. Confirming the news, a senior Congress leader said that their resignations were received at around 4 pm.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar, on Tuesday, while interacting with media persons in Panaji, had said that he had spoken to Ravi Naik over the phone and claimed that the
Ponda MLA categorically said that he is with Congress and rubbished the rumours that he was set to join BJP along with his two sons.

Reacting to the development that Ritesh and Roy Naik were on their way to BJP, Chodankar said that as per the information given to him by Ravi Naik, they both were ‘in talks with some group as there is an election for a particular post in the Ponda Municipal Council.’

Meanwhile, a senior state leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday said that it is now just a matter of time before Roy Naik and Ritesh Naik, sons of the Ponda Congress MLA, Ravi Naik join the BJP.

“They have already expressed their desire to join the BJP, with the Goa unit of the party,” the BJP leader maintained.

Meanwhile, the state BJP president, Sadanand Tanawade admitted to this daily that his party is in discussion with Naik brothers. “However, the discussion has not reached any decisive point yet,” he added.

Tanawade also said that as there is no future for any politician in the Congress party, the Congressmen are now keen to join the BJP, which is ruling the Centre and most of the states.

“The BJP from its side also wants to induct new politicians in it, as the party is expanding itself,” he added.
