Srinagar: Among the candidates from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh who cracked the 2019 Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil service exam, at least eight are expected to be joining the coveted Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS).
The names of the 16 candidates from the Union territories have so far been declared among the list of 829 successful candidates released by the UPSC Tuesday. These include four from Jammu, two from Ladakh and the rest from Kashmir.
Among them were Abhishek Augustya, who topped the exam in J&K and is nationally ranked at 38, followed by Sunny Gupta (148), Dev Ahuti (177) and Parth Gupta (240). All of them are from Jammu.
The candidates from the rest of the region include Asrar Ahmad Kitchloo (248), Asif Yousuf Tantray (328), Namgyal Angmo (323), Nadia Beigh (350), Aftab Rasool (412), Sabzar Ahmad Ganie (628), Majid Iqbal Khan (638), Stanzin Wangyal (716), Rayees Hussain (747), Mohammed Nawas Sharaf Uddin Sharafuddin (778), and Syed Junaid Adil (822).
According to the ranking system at least two candidates from Jammu are expected to join IAS, seven are likely to join IFS and IPS.
There are a total of 927 vacancies that need to be filled across the country, which include 180 vacancies in the IAS, 24 in IFS and 150 in IPS.

The IAS has the following vacancies — 72 in the general category, 18 for those from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), 52 for Other Backward Castes (OBC), 25 for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 13 for Scheduled Tribes (ST).
In the foreign service, according to a press release issued by the government, there are 12 vacancies for general category aspirants, two for EWS, six for OBC, three for SC and one for ST category aspirants. Among the 150 IPS vacancies, 60 are in the general category, 15 for EWS, 42 for OBC, 23 for SC and 10 for ST.
