Mumbaikars woke up to heavy waterlogging after continuous rainfall all through the night. The weather department has sounded a red alert for today and tomorrow for extremely heavy rain in Mumbai. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also issued an alert to all concerned departments and citizens of Mumbai. BMC said that Mumbai city received 140.5 mm rain from 8 am on August 3 to 3 am on August 4, while the Eastern and Western Suburbs recorded 84.77 mm and 79.27 mm of rainfall respectively. The city corporation has also been put on fire brigade, pumping stations, coastal security agencies and the disaster management teams on alert. The IMD said that extremely heavy rain will occur at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts of Maharashtra on August 4 and August 5. Ratnagiri district is also expected to receive extremely heavy rain on August 4, while Palghar district is expected to receive extremely heavy rain on August 5. IPS office Vinay Tiwari, who reached Mumbai on Sunday afternoon, has allegedly been forcibly quarantined. The allegation was made by another top Bihar officer on Twitter. The officer alleged that Tiwari was not even provided accommodation in the IPS mess despite a request being made. This comes amid an escalating blame game between police of the two states over the probe into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Earlier, Bihar police had alleged that they have not even been provided with basic documents like the post mortem report etc by their Mumbai counterparts. The matter has also taken a political turn with several top leaders from Bihar slamming the Uddhav Thackeray led government in Maharashtra. Many of them have also called for a CBI probe into the death of the actor who originally hailed Bihar. Sushant Rajput's father had filed an FIR in Patna and leveled serious allegations against the actor's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family members. Maharashtra on August 05 recorded 10,309 new COVID-19 cases and 334 deaths, taking the state's count of coronavirus cases to 4,68,265. Today, Delhi reported 1076 new COVID-19 positive cases and 11 deaths. Meanwhile, 10,128 new Coronavirus cases have been reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours. Total cases has reached to 1,86,461 including 1,04,354 recoveries and 1,681 deaths in the state. 5,619 new COVID-19 cases and 100 deaths reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 1,51,449.

The government has accepted Bihar government's request of CBI probe into actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death, Centre's senior second-most law officer Tushar Mehta stated it before the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Solicitor General Mehta made the submission during hearing of a plea by actor Rhea Chakraborty. Rhea had sought transfer of the case registered in Patna to Mumbai. The top court asked the parties involved to file their response in three days. SC has also ordered Maharashtra government to apprise court of the stage of probe by Mumbai Police. The case will now be heard next week. Sushant's father KK Singh had filed a police complaint against Rhea in Patna. Singh accused her of abetting his son's alleged suicide in June and alleged that Rhea illegally transferred Rs 15 crore from his son's bank account. Rhea challenged Bihar police's jurisdiction, saying the alleged crime took place in Mumbai. On Tuesday, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had recommended that the CBI take over the case. Kumar said the decision was taken after Sushant's father met state police chief. Sushant's father had also met Kumar seeking CBI investigation in the case. Singh alleged Mumbai police of inaction even after 40 days of actor's death.

BMC has asked offices in Mumbai to remain shut in view of the rain. BMC Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal, said, "230 mm rainfall occurred within 10 hours. It is a flood-like situation. Mithi River swelled up and crossed the danger mark. We started evacuating people from the nearby slum areas. As of now, it is flowing below the danger level. Evacuation of people has now been stopped."

Two people were killed after a portion of a multi-storey building collapsed in Uttar Pradesh's Noida. The incident which took place on Friday evening also left three injured. The under-construction building is located in Sector 11 and belongs to a private firm. A large number of police personnel along with senior officers and teams of the fire department and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were present on the spot for rescue operations. Taking cognisance of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissioner Alok Singh to reach the spot. He also asked Singh to ensure all victims are rescued and given proper treatment, according to an official statement released in Lucknow. Singh said information was received this evening that a part of the building had collapsed during construction work. On the cause of the collapse, Singh said engineers and technical teams from the Noida Authority have reached the spot to ascertain the reason. The front portion of the building collapsed due to the construction work. The office of a solar panel manufacturing firm is located on the floor on which the work was going on, according to senior officials at the site.
