Coimbatore collector issues flood alert for people living on Bhavani river banks as Pillur dam water level is nearing full capacity

COIMBATORE: Coimbatore district collector K Rajamani on Tuesday issued a flood alert for people living on the banks of the Bhavani river in Mettupalayam.
The collector said the water level at Pillur dam touched 97 feet by 8.15am. The dam’s total storage capacity is 100 feet.
The water level was 95 feet at 6.15am. It increased by 2 feet in two hours.
“Water is being released from the dam as we speak. So water will be rising and flowing at full force,” he said.
Rajamani requested people living and working near the river banks to move to safer places to avoid being washed away.
