A fire at a scrapyard which engulfed about 40 cars is not being treated as suspicious.
The large blaze at Intapart car parts on London Road in Daventry broke out at about 20:00 BST on Monday.
Northamptonshire Fire Service said it took three hours to put out and crews prevented it spreading to other stock.
Huge black plumes of smoke could be seen more than 30 miles away in Leicestershire, according to social media reports.
The fire brigade received 18 calls from "concerned members of the public, relating to smoke".
Group Commander Barry Mullan, said crews dealt with it in an "exceptionally efficient and professional manner and contained the fire to one area of the storage compound".
"I would also like to thank our colleagues at Northamptonshire Police who quickly deployed to the scene to close the A45 and engage with members of the public so we could concentrate our efforts completely on the job at hand", he added.
Forty firefighters, including those from neighbouring Warwickshire, attended.
The A45 between Weedon and Daventry was closed, but has since reopened.
