The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has issued a notice to a private hospital for recovery of Rs 36 lakh allegedly overcharged from 82 Covid-19 patients.
The civic body has given Maxlife Hospital seven days to file a reply, which if not satisfactory, will invite legal action against the hospital. The move has come following several complaints to UMC chief Dr Raja Dayanidhi from patients and kin. Dayanidhi then formed a team to audit the bills of six private Covid hospitals in Ulhasnagar.
Dr Yuvraj Bhadane, UMC PRO, said, “The audit team found that from July 17 the hospital charged 82 patients Rs 68 lakh, out of which Rs 36 lakh was overcharged.
Dr Mahesh Mule, Maxlife Hospital, said, “UMC considered basic bed charges while many patients were on oxygen support and ventilator. Their charges are not included in audit. We will reply with all details.”
