PoK: Higher education remains elusive amid continuous systemic harassment

Fraught with both economic and political hurdles, the education system in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) has proven to be a major disappointment. While on one side, the system run by military generals has deliberately denied youths their share of education through its marginalizing designs, the local administration on the other side has ignored the everyday sufferings of the students. A periodic fee hike is one of their biggest concerns but the authorities have not bothered to pay any heed. The university in the region has not only charged them the entire course fee despite lockdown but has also announced a hike. Students have demanded a rollback saying that hike would render double whammy as the economy of households in the region has already been affected severely. With limited schools and an even dismal enrollment, the primary and secondary level education produces a very low number of potential graduates in PoK... but even they suffer systemic assaults. Students this year were made to pay their fee in the name of alternative methods to be adopted by universities to impart education during pandemic lockdown but the authorities didn't fulfill promise once they received fees in full. Students were made to procure internet connections of their own which was earlier promised otherwise.

'Every country but China backed India's stand on Kashmir': Indian envoy to UN

India's permanent representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti has called out Pakistan's bluff on the Kashmir issue. He said that contrary to claims made by Pakistan, the issue has not been discussed at the United Nations since 1965. Trimurti added that recently a closed door meeting was held but that was nothing official and there was no outcome either. He further added that all countries, except China, have backed India's stand that it is a bilateral issue and there is no need for intervention by any organisation. 'Pakistan's attempts fell flat and even if Pakistan wants to raise the issue, there are no takers here at the United Nations', said Tirumurti. Pakistan has been desperately attempting to raise the Kashmir bogey at various platforms since India abrogated Article 370 in the valley. However, Pakistan's attempts to gain international support on the issue have not borne any fruit so far. India's permanent representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti while speaking to ANI on reports of disinformation being spread through social media by Pakistan said that joint statement by India and a group of selected countries was designed to counter exactly this type of disinformation spread by countries like Pakistan in the context of COVID-19. He said, "India and a group of selected countries cutting across regions made a joint statement in the context of infodemic in the context of COVID19, at the UN. The statement was designed to counter exactly this type of disinformation spread by countries like Pak in the context of COVID-19 to foment division and create disharmony among communities." On JandK issue he further said, "I want to reassure you that the attempt by Pakistan to involve the United Nations in the context of Jammu and Kashmir, has not borne fruit and has been wrongly refuted by India at every turn."

Hindus protest outside Pak Embassy in Kathmandu over temple construction in Islamabad

Members of Hindu Civic Society staged a protest in front of Pakistan Embassy in Nepal's capital Kathmandu against atrocities over Hindu minority. The protestors held placards during the demonstration and also burnt effigy of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan during the protest. They demanded construction of Krishna temple in Islamabad. 9 Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists killed in J-K's Shopian encounter: DGP Dilbag Singh

Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh informed that Nine Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in an operation in Shopian on June 07 and 08. "In last two week, security forces are working hard to eliminate the militants. In yesterday's and today's operations 9 militants killed including three top commanders from Hizbul Mujahideen," said Singh.
