Area located behind the Goa College of Architecture at Altinho in Panaji was sealed on Tuesday after a youth from the area succumbed to COVID-19.

No respite for Goa from surge in COVID cases

Panaji: The state continues to report a high number of coronavirus infections, as Goa’s COVID-19 tally crossed the 7,000-mark with 259 cases being detected on Tuesday.

Some 238 COVID patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.

With these recoveries and new cases, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa currently stand at 7,075 of which 1,901 are active, while 5,114 people have defeated the deadly disease. Sixty one COVID patients have succumbed to the virus.

According to the directorate of health services, the 1,901 active cases include 12 persons, who travelled to Goa from outside by road, rail and air. A majority of the active COVID-19 cases in Goa fall under the jurisdiction of urban health centre of Vasco with 389 cases, primary health centre of Cortalim has 288 cases, while UHC Margao and PHC Ponda have 114 cases within their jurisdictions.

The community health centres from where the cases are emerging are Bicholim (12), Sankhali (58), Pernem (26), Valpoi (58), Curchorem (26) and Canacona (8). The other UHCs include Mapusa (67) and Panaji (78). The COVID cases are also surfacing from the jurisdictions of PHCs that include Aldona (20), Betki (22), Candolim (45), Cansarvanem (6), Colvale (37), Corlim (30), Chimbel (98), Siolim (10), Porvorim (38), Mayem (8),  Balli (50), Cansaulim (32), Chinchinim (1), Curtorim (48), Loutolim (24), Marcaim (28), Quepem (30), Sanguem (16), Shiroda (33), Dharbandora (38), and Navelim (37).
