Five from Assam clear UPSC exams

GUWAHATI: At least five candidates from Assam have cleared the UPSC civil services examinations 2019, results of which were declared on Tuesday.
Aranyak Saikia, son of former Assam DGP and incumbent president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Kuladhar Saikia, is a 2017-batch IPS officer serving in Karnataka. He had the best rank (59th) from Assam in the all-India merit list. Aranyak’s mother Leena Sarma is also an eminent littérateur and currently a technical member in Railway Claims Tribunal in Guwahati.
"It’s heartening that I could achieve a desired rank in the third attempt. Hopefully, I will get a chance to serve as an IAS officer next,” Aranyak told TOI from Mysore.
He said that policing and preparing for UPSC exams was challenging. Aranyak had to apply for extraordinary leave for final preparations of the exam. He did his MA and MPhil from Delhi School of Economics.
The other candidates from the state who excelled in the exam from the state are Sizal Agarwal (112th rank), Nivedita Dutta (697th rank), Tapan Deka (766th rank) and Kishore Sutradhar (784th rank).
While Sizal Agarwal and Nivedita Dutta hail from Jorhat district in upper Assam, Kishore Sutradhar is from Bongaigaon. Tapan Deka is from Narengi area of Guwahati and currently serves as assistant commissioner of income tax at ministry of finance.
Nivedita Dutta, who originally hails from Assam said, “I hope that after clearing the UPSC, I will be able to serve the nation and its people through public service so that maximum number of people can reap the benefits (of governance).” She was contended with the 697th rank and thanked her family and friend circle as well as teachers for infusing positivity and encouragement during the exam.
Sizal, on the other hand, was elated at her results. “At this moment I am extremely elated and although it has been a few hours since the results were declared, I have still not been able to gather myself. It’s a great feeling to achieve something for which I have dreamt of everyday,” she said, adding that to excel in the civil services exam, one needs persistent and consistent efforts. "I will say never stop believing,” said Sizal.
Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated the successful candidates from Assam who cracked the exam with flying colours.
In a statement, Sonowal said that the successful candidates have brought laurels to the state by cracking the examination with their hard work, dedication and perseverance and their results would inspire other youths of the state to aim for civil service examinations in the right earnest. He also hoped that the successful candidates would render their services with full integrity and contribute towards the nation-building process in their roles as administrators and bureaucrats. EoM
