Panchkula: IG Hemant Kalson booked for abusing woman

PANCHKULA: A Pinjore resident has accused controversial inspector general of police (IG) Hemant Kalson of using abusive language in an inebriated condition against her, prompting the police to register a case against him.
On July 27, 55-year-old Kalson, who lives next to the house of the woman at his brother’s place, came and knocked on her door around 7.30pm when she was alone, the 40-year-old alleged. He was allegedly drunk. He asked her: “Why did you pluck a plant from outside my brother’s house?”. When she denied doing any such thing, Kalson allegedly walked up to her, his breath reeking of alcohol, and tried to harass her. The woman avoided to engage in a conversation with him. Kalson allegedly started abusing her and threatened her of dire consequences. When neighbours started gathering, Kalson went back to his home, the woman alleged.

Fearing the IG could harm them, the woman went to a police station with 14 of her neighbours present at the time of the incident as witnesses to lodge a complaint. Deputy commissioner of police Mohit Handa said an ACP-level officer is appointed to probe the matter. “A fair investigation will be conducted. We are not under any pressure,” he said.
