Mumbai rain live updates: Heavy showers hit rail, road traffic in city and suburbs

MUMBAI: Heavy overnight rains lashed Mumbai, satellite cities, the suburbs and the coastal North Konkan belt on Tuesday hitting road and rail traffic. There was a huge landslide on a hillock with tonnes of debris falling on the Western Express Highway at Malad, blocking south-bound road traffic with commuters stuck.
* The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation has deployed water pumps to flush out the excess flood water and clear the roads.
* Services on sections of suburban sector were halted or crawling on the Western Railway, Central Railway at various locations, while the Harbour Line was paralysed from Kurla to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

* The city corporation has also put on alert fire brigade, pumping stations and operating staff at temporarily installed 299 pumping machines.

* According to BMC, Mumbai city received 140.5 mm rain from 8 am on August 3 to 3 am on August 4. The Eastern and Western Suburbs recorded 84.77 mm and 79.27 mm of rainfall respectively.
Overnight rain leads to waterlogging in Mumbai; red alert in city for 2 days
With continuous rainfall all through the night people in several parts of Mumbai on Tuesday woke up to severe waterlogging. The weather department has sounded a red alert for today and tomorrow for extremely heavy rain in Mumbai.
All non-essential shops in city can open daily from tomorrow
From Wednesday, shops in Mumbai can stay open on all days of the week and those on all sides of the road can stay open at the same time. Liquor shops, too, can sell across the counter, the BMC has said in a circular issued on Monday on revised guidelines for the ‘unlocking’ phase.
More recoveries than cases in state for third day running
For the third day in a row, the state’s discharges were more than its fresh addition of Covid-19 cases. Maharashtra on Monday added 8,968 new cases, taking its total cases to 4,50,196 by breaching the 4.5 lakh mark. A total of 10,221 patients were discharged on Monday, taking the total discharges in the state to 2,87,030. The recovery rate of Maharashtra jumped to 63.7%, very close to the national rate of 64%.
