Bardez villages face brunt of heavy rains, gusty winds

Mapusa: Continuous heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds disrupted normal life with numerous incidents of tree falls in Mapusa and surrounding areas and also with many villages going without power supply.

Surge in water level of Chapora river also gave rise to fears of flooding.

As a result, many houses were damaged and the electricity department also suffered losses as overhead wires were snapped and poles broken.

The most affected areas were Chapora, Assagao, Siolim, Verla-Canca, Aldona and Pomburpa.

A two-wheeler which was parked inside a compound of a house at Siolim was damaged after a huge tree fell on it.

During their interaction with villagers, officers asked them not to panic as no water has been released from Tillari dam. The locals were assured that prior information would be given in case of release of water.
