Assam: One more death takes flood toll to 110

GUWAHATI: After a three-day gap, floods in Assam claimed one more human life on Monday, taking the death toll due to deluge to 110 since May 22. Another 26 died in the landslides triggered by incessant rains.
However, the flood situation in the state improved further as the water receded from vast areas of the state. About 3.89 lakh people in 17 districts remain affected.
The number of flood-hit people decreased by 4.65 lakh since Sunday, while that of the district was down by two.
According to the daily flood bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one person drowned at Manikpur area of Bongaigaon district.
At present, 494 villages and 32,028.83 hectares of crop areas are still under water in the state, the bulletin said.
Goalpara continues to be the worst-hit district with about 1.73 lakh people affected, followed by Bongaigaon with more than 49,800 people and Morigaon with over 48,100 people impacted.
ASDMA said about 7,181 people have taken shelter in the 38 governemnt-run relief camps nine districts.
The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Dhubri town, Nimatighat in Jorhat and Tezpur in Sonitpur districts.
