Traffic was affected on the Tirupur -Palladam Road for more than 30 minutes following the accidentCOIMBATORE: A man died when an 80-foot-tall mobile tower fell on a motorcycle and a truck near Veerapandi in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sengiskhan, 53, who was riding on the two-wheeler.
The accident happened around 11.30am. The abandoned tower was not able to withstand high speed wind and collapsed.
Sengiskhan, who was wearing helmet, died on the spot when the tower fell on him and a truck. There was no damage to the loaded truck. Truck driver didn’t suffer any injury.
Traffic was affected on the Tirupur -Palladam Road for more than 30 minutes. The Veerapandi police rushed to the spot and removed the tower from the road.
The dead body was sent to the Tirupur Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
Police said the mobile tower had not been in use for a few years.
