First death in Panaji

Panaji: The capital city of Panaji recorded its first COVID death on Tuesday as a youth from Altinho succumbed to the viral infection.

The deceased, who was 29 years old, resided in the vicinity of the Goa College of Architecture at Altinho, said city Mayor Uday Madkaikar.

Madkaikar said the youth died while undergoing treatment at the COVID hospital in Margao and added that he was suffering from other ailments.

Speaking to this daily, Madkaikar said this is the first COVID death from the city. He said slum area located behind the Goa College of Architecture where around 120 people reside has been sealed as a preventive measure. Meanwhile, the Mayor said around ten new cases have been detected in and around the city. He said three COVID cases have been found in the Mala area, while three cases have been detected in Altinho, two cases in Caranzalem and one each in Miramar and Ribandar.
