PATIALA: In a single day, five more persons have lost their lives due to
Covid-19 infection in Punjab's Patiala district taking the death toll to 38 whereas 34 more cases have reported positive on Tuesday taking the tally to 2,001 cases so far. A total of 679 are active cases in the district while 1284 patients have recovered so far.
Among the five deceased is a 33-year-old Patiala city resident who was admitted to government Rajindra hospital after facing breathing problem. He succumbed to Covid-19 infection while a 27-year-old woman of Dakala village of Patiala who got admitted to the government Rajindra hospital recently also died. She was having a fever from 10 days after getting medicine from a TB hospital.
The authorities said that a 65-year-old man of Chahal road in Patiala also died and was co-morbid with hypertension and heart ailments. Similarly, a 46-year-old resident of Mehta colony in Patiala having breathing problem and 57-year-old of Chaunhat village having co-morbidity with diabetes and kidney ailment also succumbed to coronavirus infection.
Dr Harish Malhotra, Patiala civil surgeon, said, “On Tuesday 34 cases were reported positive of which 15 were from Patiala, 10 from Nabha, three from Rajpura, five from Samana and others from different villages. Among these, seven were from contact tracing while 27 were having flu-like symptoms, two were health care workers, two IDSP employees and one pregnant woman. We have taken 46260 samples of which 42500 have been reported negative and 1634 sample reports were awaited.”
Meanwhile, three more cases were reported in Ropar district including one case each from Chamkaur Sahib and Morinda block and one from Khwaspura. The tally of positive cases has reached 282 cases so far of which 64 are active cases, 213 have recovered and five died so far in the district.
