NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday had a telephonic conversation with Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani and both the leaders discussed the evolving security situation in the region.
The two leaders also exchanged greetings on the festival of Eid–ul–Adha, the Prime Minister's Office said.
During the telephone call, the Prime Minister reiterated India's commitment to the people of Afghanistan in their quest for a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Afghanistan.
"PM Modi and President Ghani exchanged views on the evolving security situation in the region and other areas of mutual bilateral interest," the PMO said.
President Ghani thanked Prime Minister Modi for timely supply of food and medical assistance to meet the Afghan requirement, according to an official statement, it said.
The phone call between the two leaders came in the wake of media reports that said Afghan forces retook a prison in the country's east, a day after the Islamic State terrorist group attacked the facility in which at least 29 people were killed.
