Madeira claims to be the safest tourist destination in Europe

Officials from the island of Madeira recently argued that due to the record of only nine active COVID-19 cases after reopening the tourism sector, the destination can be termed as one of the safest tourism venues in Europe at present. Even the Foreign & Commonwealth Office has given permissions regarding travels to Madeira. However, British visitors are still expected to self-isolate for 14-days once they return home as per government restrictions.

Meanwhile, the Archipelago of Madeira continues to prioritise the well-being and protection of citizens and tourists. In light of a greater flow of flights to the region of Madeira, the use of a face mask in public spaces where social distancing cannot be observed is now mandatory as a preventive measure. This would include places such as nature walks, sports grounds, visits to farms and gardens, beaches and bathing complexes.

However, the new rule for the use of masks in public outdoor spaces comes with several exemptions so that comfort and enjoyment of outdoor spaces for leisure and exercise is not compromised. Nuno Vale, Executive Director, Madeira Promotion Bureau said in a statement that security inevitably continues to be at the top of the concerns of citizens and tourists and hence more priority is being given to keeping cases to a minimum.

He shared that a lower number of active coronavirus cases would ensure freedom to live and enjoy the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo. He also mentioned that the exceptional control of the pandemic in the region has been possible due to the joint political effort and exemplary citizenship while also allowing for a safe tourist experience of the archipelago.
