Rakhi 2020: Mata Amritanandamayi greets PM Modi on Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan 2020: Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi, popularly known as 'Amma' by her followers, greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Raksha Bandhan today.

In a video message, Mata Amritanandamayi said, "...at a time when there are so many crises in the country both inside and from neighbouring countries, the Prime Minister has to take the correct decisions. May God give him the strength to protect the people."

Amma starts her message by referring to the Puranas. She says, just like Lord Krishna, who held the Govardhana mountain on his finger to protect people during the torrential rain, similarly the Prime Minister has the responsibility of protecting everyone, the way Krishna did. "There are troubles in the country, a raging pandemic that has made people insecure both mentally and physically - may God bless the PM, to help him make the right decisions and protect the nation."

In response, PM Modi said, "Respected Amritanandamayi  Ji, I am most humbled by your special Raksha Bandhan greetings. It is my honour and privilege to work for our great nation. Blessings from you, and from India's Nari Shakti, give me great strength. They are also vital for India's growth and progress."

Amma has often tweeted video messages for PM Modi. After receiving wishes on his birthday in 2018, the Prime Minister said, "...You have always been a constant source of strength and positivity not only in my life but also in the lives of millions of people. Thank you very much."

After launching the "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign, Prime Minister Modi had interacted with religious and spiritual leaders like Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Mata Amritanandamayi.

Before becoming the Prime Minister, in 2013, he had also attended Mata Amritanandamayi's 60th birthday celebrations held at her mutt about 80 km from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
