AMC yet to reopen Jamalpur market; farmers, traders barge in

With AMC refusing to reopen the closed Jamalpur market, farmers and traders barged into the marketplace on Sunday and began wholesale trading. The civic body had shifted them from Jamalpur market to Jetalpur market in April owing to rise in cases there. At that time, they had said they would bring them back to Jamalpur.

However, despite repeated requests, the market was not being opened. APMC traders’ association member Bharatsinh Ravat said, “We had repeatedly made representations to AMC, but they have not been opening the Jamalpur market. All other markets have been opened. So the farmers and traders on their own entered the marketplace and began selling their produce. Police had reached the spot. They talked politely to the farmers and convinced them a representation to the municipal commissioner after Rakshabandhan. The farmers agreed and left after partial sale.”
