In our country jackfruit used to be mocked as 'vegetarian non-vegetarian', but now in western countries, it is being tried as an alternative to non-vegetarian. People who are staying away from non-vegetarians due to corona are now using jackfruit a lot to enjoy eating non-vegetarian 'like'.

The use of jackfruit in place of chicken and mutton in burger and pizza is very prevalent in American-European society. Experts say that given the huge availability of jackfruit in India if the right strategy is prepared, it can prove to be a big deal for our farmers.

Indeed, many institutions have made it clear that eating chicken-mutton or any non-vegetarian diet does not spread corona. But even then, people are staying away from eating non-vegetarian food. People are getting the same taste in jackfruit because of its thick, smooth, and tense pulp. This is why jackfruit is becoming very popular here.

What is the specialty

Jackfruit is grown in India since three to six thousand years ago and is also the first in terms of production. However, despite its religious significance, it did not get the honor of being a national fruit in India. Kerala and Tamil Nadu have declared it a state fruit. It has the distinction of being a national fruit in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, which also holds a special place in its production.

Even after producing good in the states of North India, its business has developed more in South India from where it is sent to the American-European markets including Bangladesh.

Its fruit can range from five kilograms to 55 kilograms. A mature jackfruit tree can produce from 200 to 500 fruits a year. The jackfruit tree does not demand any additional labor for maintenance, while it can greatly benefit the farmers. Jackfruit can be eaten for a long time, ranging from raw to ripe fruit. This is the reason that traders get the desired time to sell it.

According to Dr. Sanjay Singh, senior scientist at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Pusa), jackfruit is eaten in many forms, from raw to ripe fruits.
