MYSURU: An undertrial prisoner, tested positive for covid, has escaped from hospital in Mysuru a day after he was hospitalized.
Keerthi (21) of Mandya district is facing a criminal charge in an assault case and was housed in Mysuru Central Prison. Recently he developed covid symptoms and was hospitalized on Saturday.
Keerthi has gone missing from the hospital since Sunday. Metagalli police have received a complaint and have launched a search.
An officer said the accused has taken advantage of wearing a mask, which is compulsory for all patients and staff at the covid hospital, to escape. As there is no separate guarded facility for prisoners at covid hospital, keeping an eye on him round the clock is really difficult.
Search has been launched to trace him. Cops have taken his particulars from neighbouring Mandya cops who had arrested him in a criminal case.
