Gurgaon: For the first time in the past two months, Gurgaon on Sunday had less than 900 active Covid-19 cases and is likely to witness a downward trend by next month. With 79 new cases on Sunday, Gurgaon’s tally touched 9,245. A total of 115 patients recovered on the same day, taking the active cases to 883.
The last time the city had fewer than 900 active cases was on May31, with 619.
In the past 10 days, it added 980 new cases, which means, on an average less than 100 new cases were added every day, according to data from the health department.
Gurgaon chief medical officer Dr Virender Yadav said that the department has taken several measures to ensure that the numbers decrease. “We are ensuring that whoever comes in contact with a Covid positive patient stays in isolation for seven to 10 days even if that person has no symptoms. We have made this compulsory in Mewat to curb the spread of the virus and are now carrying the similar pattern in Gurgaon,” he said, adding that they are hoping to achieve a downward trend by next month.
Meanwhile, a week after overtaking Gurgaon in the number of Covid deaths, Faridabad on Sunday registered the highest number of active cases (1,174) in the state. While both the districts have crossed the 9,000-mark, experts said Faridabad will soon overtake Gurgaon in the total number of cases.
Deputy commissioner Yashpal Yadav said Faridabad has a large number of residents with comorbidities and hence the sudden surge. “We conducted a survey recently and came to know that 21,000 people have compromised immunity. Thus, Covid deaths are higher in the district.”
He added, “We are confident that by the fourth week of August, we will see a downward trend. We have provided oxymeters to our teams and they are conducting door-to-door evaluation of cases. We are discharging people in 10 days in case they are not showing any symptoms.”
