SEOUL:
Kia Motors is expecting renewed sales in the second half of 2020 on the back of strong line-up of vehicles and launches of
compact SUV Sonet and fourth-generation Carnival MPV in India.
Additionally, Seltos SUV has become the manufacturer’s second-most sold vehicle globally in the month of July, with 28,241 units sold.
Kia recorded global sales of 219,901 units in July, a 3 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. The Sportage SUV topped Kia’s global sales rankings, with 30,949 units sold.
Meanwhile, sales in South Korea maintained similar volume from last year’s 47,080 units, with 47,050 units in July 2020.
Compared to July 2019, sales in overseas markets in July decreased by 3.7 percent, to 172,851 units, due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Kia has confirmed that it will continue to focus on realizing its ‘Plan S’ mid- to long-term strategy. Under Plan S, Kia aims to introduce 11 battery electric vehicles and increase its operating profit margin to 6 percent by 2025.
Talking about the buzz around the corner, Kia Sonet is expected to land in an already over-populated segment. Kia Sonet is scheduled for debut on August 7.
It will fight it out with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza,
Tata Nexon,
Hyundai Venue,
Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport as well as the upcoming Renault Kiger (HBC), Toyota Urban Cruiser and
Nissan Magnite.
It is expected that the Sonet will cost Rs 7.5 lakh – Rs 12.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
In yet another run of success, Kia has achieved 1 lakh cumulative sales in the Indian market.
Kia made its India debut 11 months ago and now claims to be the fastest automaker to achieve the sales figure. Kia currently has three products in its India line-up that include
Kia Seltos SUV,
Kia Carnival MPV, and the upcoming Kia Sonet
The Kia Seltos costs Rs 9.89 lakh and goes upto Rs 17.34 lakh (ex-showroom).
