Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami has taken a tough decision regarding the new education policy of the Center. Chief Minister Palaniswamy has announced not to implement the three-language formula in his state. Palaniswami has listed opposition to Hindi on behalf of the late Chief Ministers Anna Durai, MGR and Jayalalithaa.
Chief Minister Palaniswami has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the scheme. Palaniswami said in a statement that the three-language formula is painful and tragic. He said that Tamil Nadu has provision for the first two languages and there will be no change in it. I appeal to Prime Minister Modi to rethink this decision. States should get the freedom to implement it according to their policy.
The Chief Minister also made reference to the anti-Hindi agitation organized by Tamil Nadu students in the year 1965. At that time Congress proposed to make Hindi the official language of the country. Although the state depends on which languages it will include in the three linguistic scheme, Tamil Nadu is seeing it as a sharp attempt by the Center to impose Hindi.
Education Minister Ramesh Pokhralaya Nishank had clarified in a tweet that no language will be imposed on any state by the Center. Education Minister Nishank said that he is waiting for the guidance of the former Union Minister for implementing the new education policy in Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, the MK-led DMK party and several opposition parties have opposed the new education policy and are asking for further consideration of its proposal. On Saturday, the DMK chief said that through this policy, the work of illegally imposing Hindi and Sanskrit language is being done in non-Hindi states.
The DMK leader said that this new change is not a new education policy but a shiny coat on the old oppressive Manusmriti.
