BENGALURU: A doctor from Trauma Care Centre, a dedicated Covid-19 facility in
Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, allegedly sexually harassed a Covid-19 patient on the night of July 25.
Following a complaint by the hospital on July 30, VV Puram police have filed a sexual harassment case against the unidentified doctor. Sources said the woman alleged that the doctor misbehaved with her by touching her inappropriately around 10pm that day.
The incident came to light after the woman informed her experience to Dr Asima Banu, Covid ward’s nodal officer at Trauma Care Centre.
Hospital to give details after probeBanu brought the matter to the hospital administration's notice. “Dr S Balaji Pai, a special officer, Trauma Care Centre, Victoria Hospital, filed a complaint about the incident. We have registered a case of sexual harassment against the unidentified doctor,” a police officer said.
According to police, the hospital administration has not provided sufficient details about the incident and the suspect. “They told us an internal inquiry is on and they will provide us details in a few days,” a police officer said.
While Dr Pai said he is not authorised to speak in the matter, Dr Ramesh Krishna K, medical superintendent of Victoria Hospital, said they have formed a committee to inquire into the allegation. “The committee may submit its report within a day or two,” Krishna said.
