The auto sector seems to be switching gears as the July auto sales numbers indicate a bounce back. Wholesale volumes of four of India’s top five passenger vehicle (PV) makers have surged 80 percent month-on-month in July. Two-wheeler companies also posted a sharp recovery in the affordable segment.
While the growth figures are partly because of the base effect, there is a significant undercurrent of recovery in the domestic automobile sector driven by the increased need for personal mobility, particularly given the increased risk as well as continuing unavailability of public transportation mechanisms in the wake of COVID-19.
