Uzi Nissan, an Israeli immigrant who won an eight-year legal battle with Nissan Motor Co. over his ownership of the website nissan.com, has died after contracting the COVID-19 virus.
Nissan set up the website in 1994 for his small business in North Carolina, Nissan Computer Corp. After he refused offers to sell the site, Nissan Motor sued him for $10 million in 1999. It was one of the first big cases involving allegations of cybersquatting.

"While others may have given up, Uzi kept fighting," his daughter and a friend wrote on a GoFundMe page raising money for the 68-year-old's medical expenses and children. "He was a man of principle and he always stuck to his guns."
Nissan Motor continues to use the website nissanusa.com. For many years, anyone who assumed the company's website was simply nissan.com instead found a page filled with criticism of the automaker and its logos crossed out.
