From Anushka Sharma's favourite immune-boosting drink to her get-glowing tip, here's everything you need to know
Anushka Sharma's Instagram is a treasure trove for beauty and wellness tips. The actor loves to show her fans behind-the-scenes sneak-peeks of getting ready, touching up her looks and indulging in self-care activities that she swears by. Scroll through for our 10 favourite ones.
A facial massage increases circulation, which oxygenates the tissue and gives you a healthy glow. It also stimulates the lymphatic system, which increases drainage and leaves skin look tighter in the process. For must of us, prepping the skin before makeup through skincare products is a given, but a quickie massage activates the skin and makes it more malleable to work with before you layer on the base.
Sharma recently posted a photo of herself oil pulling on Instagram. “This action is excellent for dental hygiene & health and also draws out toxins in the body. As we are all using this time to take better care of our health and improve our immunity I thought of sharing this,” she said about the age-old Ayurvedic technique. The action of swishing coconut or sesame oil in the mouth can help rid it of toxins, which can improve gum health in the process. The anti-inflammatory oils can also improve digestion by preventing germs and toxins from entering the digestive system in the first place.
Elderflower has antibacterial and antiviral properties, and may also alleviate allergies and boost the immune system, making it a must-have addition to your diet, particularly now. It is said to promote circulation and respiratory function, encouraging the body's natural immune response in the process. “My new fav drink,” shared Sharma about the fragrant tea.
“It's important to exercise not just to be healthy and fit but it even reflects on your skin and hair. I am very particular about my workouts and try not missing it even when I'm shooting,” Sharma told Vogue India in 2015. Apart from the physical benefits like revving up the metabolism and maintaining a healthy heart, exercise can relieve stress, improves memory, help you sleep, and boost overall mood. A great addition to a good workout? “Music that's peppy and lifts up my mood,” she shared.
Even if you're not doing an entire makeup look, having full and filled-in brows can be an instant game-changer. Well-groomed brows act to frame the eyes and highlight your best features, and Sharma likes to keep hers natural but bold. To cop the look, use an eyebrow pencil to make tiny upwards and outwards strokes that mimic hair—in the direction of the growth.
Sharma isn't afraid to try something new in the hairstyle department as referenced through her experimentation with curtain bangs, long beach waves, easy ponytails, purple streaks, slicked back buns and brunette highlights. But her lob haircut has been a much-loved cut, and is a style she regularly goes back to. Her shaggier iteration is a low-commitment ’do that won’t require monthly trims.
While colours like purple and red might be a bigger commitment than a regular nude shade, they can warm up and brighten the face. Sharma's berry lipstick—a major departure from her usual glossy pinks—works perfectly with an otherwise pared-back base.
Curling them and adding a swipe of mascara can instantly add thickness, length, and a darker color to the lashes, which draws attention to the eyes and creates definition. Sharma agrees, and counts the makeup product as one of her three desert island must-haves: "A deodorant, lip balm and mascara.”
For Sharma, fun makeup additions—like a glassy lip or a glitter eye—come second to a radiant base. “I try to do simple but effective things to keep my skin looking healthy and flawless,” she shared. Her secret is to maintain skin health by keeping it simple and following a routine. “I wash my face. I put moisturiser. I put sunscreen, because you know how sunscreen gives you that little glow?” she said.
While Sharma is open to trying something new, for an important and memorable event (like her wedding day!) she kept things simple. “I'd say I wanted her to look like herself on her wedding day, that was the aesthetic. We wanted to enhance her natural beauty,” shared her makeup artist, Puneet B Saini.
