On the complaint of one Gurnam Singh of Chammu Kalan village, a case has been registered against Pitu of Thandra village and Rahul Sheokand of Jaitpura village under Section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Ismailabad police station in Kurukshetra.
Gurnam stated to the police, “Pitu Thandra and Rahul Sheokand abused Sikh community on Facebook and this has caused a feeling of protest among the community. Legal action should be taken against them.”
Gurnam told, “Both accused may have some dispute with a person of our village and in the posts, they called Sikhs as refugees from western Punjab. This has caused a sense of insecurity among the community and we are hurt. A large number of families in our area had settled in Ismailabad area of Kurukshetra, after the 1947 partition.”
Ismailabad police station house officer (SHO) inspector Bhim Raj said, “We have registered a case against two accused who allegedly posted some insulting comments on social media. We have seen posts in which, they have called the community as refugees from western Punjab. We had raided the suspected locations but both the accused are absconding and efforts are being done to arrest them. We are also consulting legal adviser in this case.”
