Goa sees highest single-day spike of 337 COVID cases

Panaji: The state reported 337 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, thereby setting a new record of the highest single-day spike. The previous highest single-day increase in cases was reported on August 1 when the state saw 280 confirmed cases of the dreaded virus.

Around 230 COVID patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.

The confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa currently stand at 6,530 of which 1,809 are active, while 4,668 people have defeated the virus. The state has seen 53 COVID fatalities till date.

According to the directorate of health services, the 1,809 active cases include 22 persons, who travelled to Goa from outside by road, rail and air.

A majority of the active COVID-19 cases in Goa fall under the jurisdiction of urban health centre of Vasco with 401 cases, primary health centre of Cortalim has 289 cases, while UHC Margao has 121 cases and the PHC Ponda has recorded 110 cases within its jurisdiction.

The community health centres from where the cases are emerging are Bicholim (11), Sankhali (42), Pernem (18), Valpoi (28), Curchorem (18) and Canacona (7). The other UHCs include Mapusa (63) and Panaji (77).

Cases of COVID are also surfacing from the jurisdiction of PHCs that include Aldona (20), Betki (14), Candolim (36), Cansarvanem (6), Colvale (32), Corlim (18), Chimbel (106), Siolim (19), Porvorim (43), Mayem (6),  Balli (56), Cansaulim (36), Chinchinim (8), Curtorim (43), Loutolim (36), Marcaim (22), Quepem (19), Sanguem (10), Shiroda (22), Dharbandora (22), and

Navelim (28).
