NEW DELHI: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday conducted a search at the residence of Delhi University associate professor and now arrested accused in the ‘Bhima Koregaon Elgar Parishad case’, Hany Babu Musaliyarveettil Tharayil, in Gautam Buddha Nagar, UP.
NIA in a press release said investigation so far has revealed that Hany Babu, apart from being an alleged co-conspirator in Elgar-Parishad case along with others accused of propagating Naxal and Maoist ideology, was financially helping CPI(Maoist) leaders, was part of a committee seeking release of G N Saibaba who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for alleged links with Maoists, and also in touch with outlawed Manipuri rebel outfits.
During the search at Hany Babu’s house, NIA seized one account ledger, one receipt book of the committee for the defence and release of G N Saibaba, several documents as well as electronic items such as hard disk, USB pen drive etc.
NIA said that following the release of CPI(Maoist) leader Pallath Govindankutty, Hany Babu, who was arrested in Mumbai last week, had helped him financially along with co-accused Rona Wilson, by raising funds. Probe, said NIA, had revealed that Babu was in contact with Paikhomba Meitei, secretary for information & publicity, military affairs, of Manipuri rebel outfit Kangkeipak Communist Party (MC). This group is banned under the UAPA. An interview of Ganapathy, general secretary of CPI (Maoist) was shared by Paikhomba Meitei with Babu. Communications of Hany Babu with other Maoists of Manipur have also been retrieved.
Babu, along with other accused namely Rona Wilson, Anand Teltumbde, P Varavara Rao and Surendra Gadling had also formed a committee for the release of G N Saibaba who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for his alleged links with CPI (Maoist), said NIA.
The Elgar Parishad case pertains to organisation of Elgar Parishad at Pune, Maharashtra on 31.12.2017 which promoted enmity between various caste groups and led to violence resulting in loss of life & property and state-wide agitation in Maharashtra. The investigation revealed that the Elgar Parishad along with Maoist leaders used the incident to spread the ideology of Maoism/Naxalism and encourage unlawful activities on the instructions of the leaders of CPI (Maoist), a banned organisation.
