PIL filed in SC to constitute an independent regulatory authority to regulate electronic media

MUMBAI: A public interest litigation filed in Supreme Court has sought an independent regulatory authority for news broadcasters to check “sensational reporting” and discourse by TV news channels on critical issues.

In his PIL, Delhi-based advocate Reepak Kansal said, “Electronic broadcasting channels do not come under the ambit of the Press Council of India.” ET has accessed a copy of the PIL.
