Goa records new high in Covid-19 infections, 337 cases detected in single day

PANAJI: On Sunday, Goa’s tally of active cases of Covid-19 shot up to 1809 with a highest ever single-day rise with 337 new cases detected. In the last 48 hours, 517 new infections have been reported in the state.
The state also saw five coronavirus deaths taking its fatality count to 53. All five patients – four from Vasco which has been the worst hit of the pandemic - were under treatment at Covid-ESI hospital in Margao.
Three men - a 72-year-old from Sada, a 54-year-old, from Zuarinagar, a 54-year-old from Durbhat, Ponda and a 72-year-old woman from New Vaddem – all having co-morbid conditions succumbed to the virus. Fifth death was that of a 45-year-old woman from Baina in Vasco.
On Sunday, the Goa government introduced Convalescent plasma therapy for critically-ill patients at Covid-ESI hospital. “Two patients were successfully administered plasma. Our team is moving forward to fight this virus and emerge victorious in our fight against Covid-19,” said health minister Vishwajit Rane as Goa saw its death toll rising.
Over 40 people, ex-covid patients have donated their plasma at Goa Medical College (GMC) and hospital, Bambolim since last month.
There were also 230 recoveries during the day that has brought the total of patients cured and discharged to 4668 since pandemic.
