On Saturday, 2770 metric tonnes of waste was collected, the waste collected on Sunday stood at 1,955 metric tonnes . To collect and transport the waste, 403 vehicles were pressed into service. The vehicles include tippers, earthmovers and bobcats.
GHMC commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar instructed civic body’s veterinary wing officials to ensure beef abattoirs and animal slaughterhouses are shut on Sunday.
The civic officials have transported the waste to Jawahar Nagar. According to them, the waste has been disposed of as per norms.
“We have the animal waste to six rendering plants located on the outskirts of the city,” said Abdul Wakil, GHMC chief veterinary officer.
