SURAT: The Southern
Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has urged the state government to provide financial assistance to the family members of the workers and other staff employed in the industrial units in Surat and south Gujarat if they die due to
Covid-19.
In a representation to deputy chief minister
Nitin Patel, the SGCCI office-bearers stated that Covid-19 cases from the diamond, textile, engineering units and others are on the rise.
Dinesh Navadiya, in-charge president of SGCCI told TOI that an estimated 25 lakh workers in the industrial sectors are paying professional tax to the government exchequer.
“If the workers are paying professional tax, they should also get the benefit of government schemes, especially financial assistance of Rs one lakh for their death due to Covid-19,” said Navadiya.
