Law (LLB) entrance exams in India

To become a lawyer in India you need to have a bachelor's degree in Law - Legum Baccalaureus or Bachelor in Law degree commonly known as LLB degree. The course is either a 5-year integrated degree or 3-year LLB. The three years degree is only for those who already have an undergraduate degree like B.A., B.Com or B.Sc etc from a recognized institute or university. The Class 12 pass (10+2) candidates can opt for an integrated degree. This 5-year integrated degree, after completing some specific course, can be BBA LLB, B.A. LLB, B.Com LLB or B.Sc. LLB.

Getting admission
Candidates should have minimum 50% marks in graduation if he/she wants to get admission in the LLB course. There are mainly four/five entrance exams conducted in India for granting admissions in a law institute.
Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) ia an entrance exam for getting entry into National Law Schools. Some law colleges grant admissions based on the score in the Law School Admission Test – India (LSAT-India). All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is another entrance exam for seeking admission to NLU, Delhi. SLAT (Symbiosis Law Admission Test) is a test for admission to SLS, Pune. Besides these tests some states also conduct their own entrance exam for granting admissions in the Law institutes - govt or private colleges.

1) Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)
CLAT is a national level entrance test for admissions to 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) in India to their under-graduate and postgraduate degree programmes - LL.B and LL.M. CLAT is organized by the Consortium of National Law Universities consisting of the representative universities.
Some of the NLUs that consider CLAT scores for admissions are NALSAR, NLSIU, WBNUJS, NLU, NLIU and GNLU. Most private and self-financed law schools also use CLAT scores for law admissions.
2) LSAT India - Law School Admission Test
LSAT-India is a standardized test of reading and verbal reasoning skills designed by the USA-based Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for use by law schools in India. (LSAT) is conducted four times every year specially designed for LLB and LLM admissions.
Top institutes that accept LSAT scores are - IIT Kharagpur Law School, Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, The Jindal Global Law School, Galgotia University Law School, SRM University, Amity Law School, UPES Dehradun etc.
It may be noted that the Bennett Univerity accepts CLAT and LSAT scores for granting admissions in BBA LLB (Hons) and BA LLB (Hons) programmes.
3) All India Law Entrance Test (AILET)
National Law University Delhi conducts All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) every year to admit students for its five-year B.A LL. B programme. The University invites applications for admission to B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M. and Ph.D. Programmes. NLU Delhi does not accept any other law entrance exam for admissions. 50% seats are reserved for Delhi candidates.
4) AIL Entrance Test
Army Institute of Law (AIL) Entrance Test is conducted & coordinated by The Punjabi University, Patiala. The Army Institute of Law (AIL) was established by the Indian Army under the aegis of the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) at its interim location at Patiala. In July 2003, the Institute shifted to Sector 68, Mohali. The AIL conducts a five year BA.LLB and one year LL.M course.
5) Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT)
Candidates seeking admission to Symbiosis Law School, Pune and Noida appear in the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT). The SLC grants admissions to 5-year B.A. LL.B, BB.A LL.B, 3-year LLB and LLM courses.
6) BVP CET Law
Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) conducts common entrance test (BVP CET) Law for admissions to various undergraduate law admissions to LLB, BA LLB, BBA LLB and LLM in New Law College, Pune.
Universities like Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, IP University and others conduct their own entrance exams for admissions to law under-graduate or post-graduate courses.
