India faces 10% monsoon deficient in July, driest in 5 years: IMD

After a wet start to the season in June, the southwest monsoon stuttered in July. July has ended with a countrywide monsoon deficit of 10%. This makes it the driest July in five years, with most of northwest and central India receiving poor rains during the month. The IMD has pointed to the possibility of heavy rains in September.
