HYDERABAD: This senior civil judge is now touring the remote tribal tracts for the last three days to know the problems of people.
Kancha Prasad, senior civil judge and secretary of Adilabad district legal services authority, was able to reach inaccessible areas like Guttaguda, Makrala, Chaprala, Sonerao Guda in Utnur division, Devapur and Kasipur near Mancherial to talk to Gonds, Kolan tribe people there.
Nobody needs to tell him now that scores of villages in the agency areas do not have proper roads, schools, electricity, hospitals or even Anganwadi centres. Because he had to walk more than six kilometres to reach out to some of the villages and the journey on foot at times was adventurous too as it hinges on dangers at difficult terrains.
At some places, he had to cross flowing streams too. When he interacted with the people and showed some concern for their plight, they poured out their problems.
They have been cultivating the land there for decades together and the revenue authorities have failed to accord them pattas.
As a result of this, people are unable to avail benefits under Rythu Bandhu, the prestigious scheme launched by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Lack of pattas is also depriving them of crop loans and insurance.
The judge also observed that the water being consumed by tribals in most of the areas is not potable. The health conditions too were not up to the mark. Hospital facilities are too far from them and it is difficult to reach them at times of emergency.
The judge explained the people about the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic and urged them to maintain distance and cleanliness. He also distributed masks and sanitisers to the people.
I will soon furnish a report to the state legal services authority (SLSA) which directed me to undertake 10-day people connect programme, Kancha Prasad told TOI.
In fact, chief justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice M S Ramachandra Rao, the two heads of the SLSA directed all the district legal services authorities to tour extensively the remote tribal areas and resolve the problems of the people there.
