Cancel the MPSC exams this year, urge Navi Mumbai activists
NAVI MUMBAI: A few city activists have urged the state and civic authorities to altogether cancel the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) this year on account of the pandemic.
"Close to 2 lakh candidates, mainly from the rural parts of Maharashtra, travel towards the 50 MPSC exam centres in the cities to appear for the MPSC written exams. This is rather rash and risky because it can lead to the further spread of coronavirus. I have therefore written to state chief minister and other government agencies to cancel the MPSC exams this year," said Panvel based activist, Vishnu Gavali.
He further added, "Already, the final year university exams, such as that of TYBCom, have been cancelled or suspended. So, why not the MPSC exams? Many poor youngsters from rural parts like Beed, Kolhapur, Latur, Sangli among others travel to the exam centres a few days in advance and often try to sleep at bus stations or other public places in the cities. Such a scenario must be avoided in the current covid times."
Another Nerul based activist, Anarjit Chauhan, said, "The process of new recruitments to various state government departments such as agriculture, municipalities, police, revenue among others is done through these MPSC exams, which are held every year in 37 districts. Hence, if the state feels that these exams cannot be avoided, then we would request the Maharashtra government to ensure strict social distancing. However, many citizens feel that the exams can be delayed further in order to avoid any public health issues."
