THANE: Eighty-six construction workers at a prominent builder's site in Manpada-Majiwada tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday.
This came as Thane Small-Scale Industries Association complained to the civic chief of harassment by officials threatening closure of factories if they do not conduct RT-PCR tests on their employees.
Deputy municipal commissioner Sandeep Malvi said 536 workers were tested at the site, of which 86 were positive. Municipal commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma had this week mandated that developers in the city with workers staying on site had to undergo Covid tests.
Builders said this was a financial drain on them and sought assistance.
"We are taking adequate precautions and conducting tests. There are nearly 200 workers at most sites," said a developer.
