Road Test
This week I try …styling the curtain fringe
The lowdown Having been a fringe devotee since my teens, I am now embracing the swept-off-but-still-framing-the-face trend. I consult my hair-styling guru Philip Barwick on how to maintain this fringe style at home. “To achieve the closed-in look of a curtain fringe, you’re going to need heat protection, a light styling mousse, a Denman brush [priceattack.com.au, $32] and a texturising finishing spray,” says Philip. So, after shampooing and towel-drying my hair, I apply heat protector.

Next, I apply the mousse to my fringe, then I use the brush to push my fringe from side to side across my forehead to neutralise the root direction and create a soft curve so my fringe will drop open. I finish with a texture spray.
Downtime Just a few minutes.
Result A curtain fringe Sienna Miller would be proud of.
At home Redken makes a range of ideal products, all available from adorebeauty.com.au. Try Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Treatment Primer Cream, $38, for heat protection, then use Full Effect 04 All-Over Nourishing Mousse, $38, and finish with Wind Blown 05 Dry Finishing Spray, $38.

Trend: Facial Mists
The delights of a hydrating mist can never be underestimated, which is why I have a facial one desk-side as well as a moisture-rich body mist I spritz post-shower to surround myself in oud, damask rose, sandalwood and frankincense.

What’s the best topcoat over primer and foundation?
If you have gone to the effort to get your foundation looking seamless, sealing it with a translucent powder is a great finishing touch that also adds longevity to your base. Try M.A.C Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder (maccosmetics.com.au, $49).
