If there's one thing that Bollywood movies have captured expansively over decades, it's the complicated dynamics of familial and marital relationships. From 1990s classic Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam to 2005's romantic comedy Tanu Weds Manu, the cinematic works have touched upon complex issues in an emotional as well as light-hearted fashion. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) continues to write to her lover, Sameer (Salman Khan) after she has been made to marry a lawyer (Ajay Devgn). Coming from an opulent background, she had met Sameer in her family's palatial mansion when he arrived from Italy to learn music from her father, a royal classical singer. The budding romance between the two has been beautifully showcased in the film, as has been the characters' lives and situations after the wedding.

Tanu Weds Manu (2011-15)

She is fun-loving, free-spirited and extroverted. He is a reserved doctor who likes to talk when spoken to. When the duo come together, their marriage is equal parts romantic and complicated. Expect drama, comedy and a lot of familial challenges.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015)

School dropout Prem (Ayushmann Khurrana) marries an educated girl who he's not physically attracted to. The two deal with everyday marital issues for a long time, and finally grow closer to each other after taking part in a race. A slice-of-life drama, Dum Laga Ke Haisha received five nominations at the 61st Filmfare Awards.

Lust Stories (2018)

With the Indian woman's perspective at the centre, Lust Stories chronicles four different tales that highlight modern relationships. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar, the anthology film features an ensemble cast including Radhika Apte, Bhumi Pednekar, Kiara Advani, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Neil Bhoopalam, Neha Dhupia, Sanjay Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat and Akash Thosar.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)

Surinder Sahni (Shah Rukh Khan) and Taani (Anushka Sharma) are in a dysfunctional marriage as they discover the latter cares little about her husband. Surinder tries to impress her by disguising as her dance partner Raj and trying to get to know her in the meantime. In an interesting turn of events, Taani falls for Raj and their lives become even more tangled.

Socha Na Tha (2005)

The romantic comedy features Viren and Aditi who are being asked to meet each other for a potential arranged marriage. While they refuse to do so, the duo become friends after an interaction. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006)

Dev (Shah Rukh Khan) and Maya's (Rani Mukherjee) meeting is happenstance, but they soon develop a strong bond with each other. They're both married to different people and gradually start rethinking their marital lives. The poignant story, which also features Preity Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan, is a classic romantic drama.
