'Not job seekers but...': PM Modi lauds New Education Policy at Hackathon finale

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon 2020.

Apart from encouraging the country's youth to use their problem-solving skills to help the entire nation, he lauded the recently unveiled New Education Policy.

PM said that the policy's aim is to create job creators, and not job seekers.

Calling the 21st century an era of knowledge, PM said that the focus of the policy was on interdisciplinary education, where traditional boundaries don't inhibit the wide range of subjects that a student may be interested in.

He also emphasised the focus on pedagogy in regional tongues which would enhance learning.

The Hackathon is a nationwide initiative aimed at inculcating a culture of innovation and problem-solving among India's youth.

Around 10,000 students participated in the event this year.

The grand finale of the Hackathon, which began on August 1, will last till August 3, 2020.

NEP 2020: Manish Sisodia opposes multidisciplinary approach for renowned institutes

Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and Education Minister, Manish Sisodia opposed some sections of New Education Policy 2020. The Minister also questioned multidisciplinary scheme in the institutions like Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIM). "New Education Policy envisages all colleges and universities to be multidisciplinary. Let IIT deal with engineering, IIM with management, AIIMS with medical and FTII with acting. Dilution of such big institutes will not be good for talent of country," said Sisodia to ANI. Manish Sisodia also said that the New Education Policy is just a wishful thinking not action driven.

‘New Education Policy gives highly-regulated, poorly-funded model’: Sisodia

Politics over the New Education Policy continues as Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia said the policy had two problems. Welcoming some of the reforms, Sisodia also pointed out changes, he thought were a problem. The new National Education Policy (NEP) recommends a "highly-regulated" and "poorly-funded" education model, while it is either confused or silent on how the reforms outlined in it will be achieved, Sisodia said. Referring to the policy as a "progressive document", the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said it recognises the flaws in the current education system but was unable to break free of the pressures of old traditions. "The NEP is a progressive document but there is no roadmap for its implementation. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also raised a question of why the policy was not discussed in Parliament. Tharoor said BJP has chosen unrealistic targets in the education sector through NEP.
