Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh dies at age of 64

Amar Singh, the general secretary of the Samajwadi Party and member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament died at the age of 64.

A recent report stated he was in ICU and his family was by his side. Earlier, he had suffered kidney failure in 2013.His fame as a politician had weakened over the years ever since he glided his own outfit after leaving the Samajwadi Party. He was once considered SP chief Mulayam Singh’s close friend. He had recently tweeted that he won’t ever return to SP. He resigned from all positions in SP in January, 2010 and was later expelled from the party.

Earlier today, Amar Singh extended Eid greetings on Twitter and also paid tributes to freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary.

Reacting to Amar Singh's death, Rajya Sabha Chairperson and Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu in a post said, "I pay my homage to the untimely demise of Shri Amar Singh. I express my condolences to his family members in this time of sorrow and pray that his soul rests in peace."

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed sorrow on his death saying that he is saddened to know about the passing away of the senior leader.

Condoling the death of the associated parliamentarian, BJP leader and Rajya Sabah MP Subramanian Swamy said Singh was mostly with SP, however, he made friends across the field of political parties.

The late politician is survived by wife Pankaja and twin daughters.
