ITBP signs agreement with Khadi & Village Industries Commission for procuring supplies for its personnel

NEW DELHI: Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has signed an agreement with Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) for procuring supplies for its personnel, becoming the first Central para-military force to do so.
According to the agreement, 1,200 quintals of mustard oil is being procured from KVIC by ITBP, with a total financial implication of Rs 1.73 crore.
An agreement in this regard was signed between ITBP and KVIC at the latter’s Rajghat base office here on Friday. KVIC Chairman Vinay Kumar Saxena and senior officers of ITBP provisioning directorate inked the deal that seeks to encourage swadeshi products manufactured by the country's cottage industry and small-scale manufacturers.
A home ministry meeting with Directors General of various Central armed police forces (CAPFs) in October 2019 had decided that terry-khadi uniform and other items of swadeshi origin should be made available to the CAPFs.
During the subsequent visit of home minister Amit Shah to ITBP headquarters in December 2019, an exhibition stall was set up to showcase KVIC products.
ITBP had suggested that durrie, blankets, towels, yoga kits, hospital bed sheets, pickles, mustard oil, etc could be purchased for its jawans through KVIC.
Three items — durrie, towels and blankets — were identified for procurement in the first phase and the process of procuring these is underway. For cotton durries, ITBP has been identified as the nodal agency to procure them for all CAPFs.
Approximately 2.5 lakh durries will be procured by ITBP for the CAPFs, with a financial implication of Rs 17 crore.
