With the number of COVID-19 cases increasing throughout India, the Rashtriya Rifles based in Shopian held tens of campaign meetings to raise awareness on the pandemic in the remote areas.

Dozens of public meetings were held to educate and assist villagers in safeguarding themselves from the virus.

Army doctors and para medicos educated people about the symptoms that cause of spread and how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They displayed flex boards at prominent places and distributed pamphlets along with masks and other related things.

The Army doctors further highlighted the importance of wearing masks while stepping out and following proper precautions to remain safe in this pandemic.

"Use of masks, social distancing, and keeping yourself clean, especially sanitising your hands, are the basic measures to fight COVID-19 infection," a doctor said.

We felt it was our responsibility to do our bit and let people know how important it was to wear masks and take other precautions so that human lives are saved, said a senior army officer.

The move was hailed by locals.

"We are thankful to army officers for starting an awareness campaign regarding COVID-19 infection. The way we were educated will help a lot," a local resident, Bashir Ahmad said.
